Procedure

1. WARNING! Avoid Electrical Shock. You will be accessing the interior of the machine. Power down your laser cutter and unplug it from all electrical sources and wait 5 minutes before continuing this procedure.

2. Access the BBB Cape. With a 2mm hex wrench, remove the four (4) hex screws from the right side panel. Carefully remove the panel but do not disconnect any wiring. Gently lay the panel down and place the screws in a safe location.

3. Remove M3X6 Screw from BBB Cape. Using a 2.5mm hex wrench, unscrew and remove the M3X6 screw from the top left hand corner of the BBB Cape. Place the screw in a safe location to retrieve later

4. Attach Standoff. Using your fingers, screw in the M3X8 MTF STANDOFF in the slot where the M3X6 screw was removed. This piece is attached “Male to Female” and will fit on only one way.

5. Attach Foam Pad. Align the included 1.5 x 6 x 12 (mm.) single-sided foam pad to the front of the top left USB Port on the BBB Cape. Note that the foam pad will not cover the entire USB port. Flush the top of the foam pad to the top of the USB Port (this is where the USB Adapter PCB will be placed over). Once you have the correct position identified, remove the backing of the single-sided foam pad and attach the sticky side of the foam pad in the correct position. Make sure the edges of the foam tape are aligned to the top edges of the USB Port as much as possible.

6. Detach 6 Pin Ribbon Cable. Carefully disconnect the white 6 Pin Ribbon Cable from the BBB Cape. Do not pull hard on this cable to avoid detaching the other end of the 6 Pin Ribbon. We recommend carefully routing the 6 Pin Ribbon underneath the wiring, from the bottom up, to allow the ribbon to be reconnected to the USB Adapter PCB without excessive pulling of the 6 Pin Ribbon.

7. Connect 6 Pin Ribbon Cable. Identify the orientation of the 6 Pin Ribbon and carefully connect the 6 Pin Ribbon Cable to the PIPO slot on the USB Adapter PCB included in your kit. Hold the PCB firm when inserting the 6 Pin connector and gently connect. Do not push too hard. If it does not easily slide on, check that the wired side of the ribbon is aligned to the wired side of the slot.

8. Attach USB Adapter PCB. Place the USB Adapter PCB atop of the Standoff with the USB side facing outward and the flat side facing the machine. It should be flush with the foam pad. Secure tightly with the M3X6 screw you removed earlier. Be careful to not trap any loose wires beneath the USB Adapter PCB.

9. Detach USB Cable. Carefully disconnect the USB cable from the bottom left USB Port of the BBB Cape (in some cases it may be in the top left USB Port, but there is only one USB cable).

10. Connect USB Cable. Gently plug the same USB Cable into the USB slot on the USB Adapter PCB you just installed. If the USB Adapter PCB shifts, reposition and tighten the M3X6 screw a little tighter.

11. Reattach Panel Cover. Using the 4 hex screws that were put aside, reattach the panel cover using the 2.0mm hex wrench. Be sure the cables are gently tucked within interior before securing the panel.

12. Power On and Reboot. Plug Muse back into power source and turn machine on. Make sure the touch screen boots normally.
